Christmas at Montpelier

Description

This is the Madison residence Montpelier, in Orange County VA.  This was right after Christmas, as there are wreaths and such, at the gate posts and on the mansion doors. It is here in this house, that Madison labored over writing first, the Constitution of the United States, and then the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights allows United States Citizens the right to free speech, the right and from religion, the right to peacefully address grievances. Most of these rights are given voice to when people come to Washington DC and participate in abortion, DOMA and Prop 8 hearings. In 2013 Gays and Lesbians and Straight Allies, such as myself, converged on the Supreme Court, to show support for Windsor of the United States vs. Windsor. Defense of Marriage Act was ruled unconstitutional violating the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment. That was a New York case. In Hollingsworth vs. Perry, the justices ruled that California's constitutional amendment initiative barring same sex marriage, lacked Article III standing.  The interpreter said that Madison's gift to ending things like slavery was amending the Constitution, this with an add on of John Marshall who created judicial review, poetically, when Madison and the United States were against William Marbury of Marbury vs. Madison. Then the interpreter  said there's monuments to Jefferson and Washington and Lincoln, but, there's no monument to Madison, and he deserves one since his legacy asking ourselves what is Constitutional or Unconstitutional, is still with us today. In a wing of the mansion there's a plaque dedicated to all the unconstitutional presidential actions, presidents have performed. Madison tried living within the powers of the constitution granted to a president, while as president.
